Q25 / 90 · JEE Main 2022 (24 Jun Shift 2) · Chemistry

When 200 mL of 0.2 M acetic acid is shaken with 0.6 g of wood charcoal, the final concentration of acetic acid after adsorption is 0.1 M. The mass of acetic acid adsorbed per gram of carbon is g.

Correct answer: 2

Solution

Mole of acetic acid absorbed (on 0.6 gram charcoal) =(0.2 X200)10-3 – (0.1 X 200)10-3=20 X 10-3

Weight of CH3COOH absorbed (on 0.6 gram charcoal)=(20 X10-3 ) 60 = 1200 X10-3  gram = 1.2 gram

Mass of CH3COOH absorbed per gram=1.20.6=2grams

Hence, the correct answer is 2.
