Q46 / 90 · JEE Main 2021 (27 Jul Shift 1) · Mathematics

Let P and Q be two distinct points on a circle which has center at C2,3 and which passes through origin O. If OC is perpendicular to both the line segments CP and CQ, then the set P,Q is equal to

  • A
    4,0,0,6
  • B
    2+22,3-5,2-22,3+5
  • C
    2+22,3+5,2-22,3-5
  • Correct answer
    D
    -1,5,5,1

Solution

Figure

Given the circle has centre 2,3 and it passes through the point 0,0.

So, the radius of the circle is 22+32=13

The equation of the line which passes through the point 0,0 & 2,3 is y-0=3-02-0x-0⇒y=32x

So, the slope of OC=32

From the diagram, the line PQ is perpendicular to the line OC.

So, the slope of PQ is -23

So, tanθ=-23

Using symmetric from of line

The coordinate of P=2+13cosθ,3+13sinθ

=2+13·-313,3+13213

=-1,5

The coordinate of Q=2-13cosθ,3-13sinθ

=2-13·-313,3-13213

=5,1

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
