Q31 / 87 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Mathematics · Functions

If f is a function defined as f(x)=x2−x+5, f:(12, ∞)→(194, ∞), and g(x) is its inverse function, then g'7 is equal to

  • A
    - 1 1 3
  • B
    1 1 3
  • Correct answer
    C
    1 3
  • D
    - 1 3

Solution

f⁡x=x2-x+5

f'(x)=2x-1
⇒    for y = 7 ,   x > 1 2

∴    7 = x 2 - x + 5

⇒    x 2 - x - 2 = 0

⇒    x - 2 x + 1 = 0

⇒    x = - 1, 2

⇒  x=2 (as x=- 1 is rejected)

If  fx & g x are inverse of each other, gfx=x

⇒g'fx  .f'x=1

substituting x=2 in this equation,

we get, g'(f(2)).f'(2) = 1

⇒g'(f(2))=1f'(2)
g'(7)=12(2)-1

=13 (at x=2)

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
