Which of the following statements is not true about somatic embryogenesis?
- AThe pattern of development of a somatic embryo is comparable to that of a zygotic embryo.
- Correct answerBSomatic embryos can develop from microspores.
- CSomatic embryo is induced usually by an auxin such as 2, 4-D.
- DA somatic embryo develops from a somatic cell.
Solution
Microspore are haploid cells, formed by meiotic division. Somatic cmbryos develop from somatic cells.
Related Theory
Somatic embryogenesis is an artificial process in which a plant or embryo is derived from a single somatic cell. Somatic embryos are formed from plant cells that are not normally involved in the development of embryos, i.e.s ordinary plant tissue. No endosperm or seed coat is formed around a somatic embryo. It plays a role in clonal propagation. The process of somatic embryogenesis involves four key steps which are, induction, maintenance, development. and regeneration.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
