Two vessels separately contain two ideal gases A and B at the same temperature. The pressure of gas A is three times the pressure of gas B. Under these conditions, the density of gas A is found to be two times the density of B. The ratio of molecular weights of gas A and B i.e. MAMB is

  • Correct answer
    A
    23
  • B
    32
  • C
    34
  • D
    43

Solution

Given: Pressure of gas A is three times the pressure of the gas B, i.e., PA=3PB

Let the densities of gasses be ρA and ρB, then as per the given condition of question ⇒ρA=2ρB

According to the ideal gas equation PV=RT

P=ρRTM (Since M=ρV)

M=ρRTP

Now substituting the values given in question, we get

MAMB=ρAρB×PBPA=2×11×3=23

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
