Q35 / 90 · JEE Main 2023 (08 Apr Shift 1) · Mathematics

The shortest distance between the lines x-44=y+25=z+33 and x-13=y-34=z-42 is

  • A
    63
  • B
    26
  • C
    62
  • Correct answer
    D
    36

Solution

Given:

x-44=y+25=z+33

x-13=y-34=z-42

So,

a→1=4i^-2j^-3k^a→2=i^+3j^+4k^

So,

a→2-a→1=-3i^+5j^+7k^

And,

b→1×b→2=i^j^k^453342=-2i^+j^+k^

⇒b→1×b→2=-22+12+12=6

Shortest distance between the lines

=a→2-a→1·b→1×b→2b→1×b→2

=-3i^+5j^+7k^·-2i^+j^+k^6

=6+5+76=6×36 units

=36 units

Hence this is the correct option.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
