Q8 / 97 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Chemistry · Solutions

The osmotic pressure of equimolar solutions of urea, BaCl 2 and AlCl 3 will be in the order of

  • A
    AlCl 3  > Urea >  BaCl 2
  • B
    Urea >  BaCl 2  >  AlCl 3
  • Correct answer
    C
    AlCl3>BaCl2>Urea
  • D
    BaCl 2  >  AlCl 3  > Urea

Solution

Since, osmotic pressure is a colligative property, therefore
Osmotic pressure ∝ number of solute particle in the solution.( i -factor)
∵ Dissociation of AlCl 3 is maximum and of urea is minimum.
Hence, order of osmotic pressure will be
AlCl 3  >  BaCl 2  > Urea

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
