The maximum possible area bounded by the parabola y=x2+x+10 and a chord of the parabola of length 1 is

  • A
    112
  • Correct answer
    B
    16
  • C
    13
  • D
    12

Solution

We have,

y=x2+x+10

⇒x2+x+14=y-10+14

⇒x+122=y-394

Latusrectum of parabola is 1.

∴ Length of chord is also 1.

Area is maximum when chord is latusrectum.

Figure

=10-2∫-120x2+x+10dx

=10-2x33+x22+10-120

=10-2-124+18-102=16

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
