Q30 / 105 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Mathematics · Circle

The line 2x-y+1=0 is tangent to the circle at the point 2,5 and the centre of the circle lies on x-2y=4. The square of the radius of the circle is

  • Correct answer
    A
    45
  • B
    75
  • C
    20
  • D
    50

Solution

Figure

2x-y+1=0 is tangent to the circle
Slope of line OA=-12
Equation of OA, y-5=-12x-2
2y-10=-x+2
x+2y=12
∴ intersection with x-2y=4 will give coordinates of centre

On solving, we get, the centre of the circle is (8,2)
The radius OA=8-22+2-52=36+9
=45=35 units

Hence, OA2=45

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
