Q6 / 105 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Mathematics · Circle

Let p and q be the length of two chords of a circle which subtend angles 36o and 60o respectively at the centre of the circle. Then, the angle (in radian) subtended by the chord of length p+q at the centre of the circle is

(use π=3.1)

Correct answer: 1.86

Solution

Figure
If l is the length of the chord, then l=2rsinθ2 .
p=2rsin 18o, q=2rsin⁡30o
⇒p+q=2rsin18o+sin⁡30o
=2r5-14+12=2r5+14
=2rcos36o=2rsin54o=2rsin108o2
⇒p+q subtends an angle 108o at the centre
108o=1.86 radian

Hence, the correct answer is 1.86.
