The correct order of boiling points of hydrogen halides is
- A$\mathrm{HF} \lt \mathrm{HCl} \lt \mathrm{HBr} \lt \mathrm{HI}$
- B$\mathrm{HI} \lt \mathrm{HBr} \lt \mathrm{HCl} \lt \mathrm{HF}$
- Correct answerC$\mathrm{HCl} \lt \mathrm{HBr} \lt \mathrm{HI} \lt \mathrm{HF}$
- D$\mathrm{HBr} \lt \mathrm{HCl} \lt \mathrm{HI} \lt \mathrm{HF}$
Solution
Boiling point of hydrogen halides are
$\mathrm{HF}\gt\mathrm{HI}\gt\mathrm{HBr}\gt\mathrm{HCl}$
HF have hydrogen bond so its boiling point is high. Also as molecular mass increases boiling point of other halide increases.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
