Q6 / 90 · JEE Main 2019 (09 Apr Shift 2) · Chemistry

Molal depression constant for a solvent is 4.0 K kg mol-1. The depression in the freezing point of the solvent for 0.03 mol kg-1 solution of K2SO4 is:
(Assume complete dissociation of the electrolyte)

  • Correct answer
    A
    0.36 K
  • B
    0.24 K
  • C
    0.18 K
  • D
    0.12 K

Solution

Depression in Freezing Point =ΔTf

ΔTf=i×kf×m

Molality =0.03 mol/kg

i=3;  kf=4 K kg/mol

ΔTf=3×4×0.03=0.36 K

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
