Q44 / 90 · JEE Main 2021 (01 Sep Shift 2) · Mathematics

Let the acute angle bisector of the two planes x-2y-2z+1=0 and 2x-3y-6z+1=0 be the plane P. Then which of the following points lies on P ?

  • A
    (0, 2, -4)
  • Correct answer
    B
    -2, 0, -12
  • C
    (4, 0, -2)
  • D
    3, 1, -12

Solution

Angle bisectors of the two given planes are

x-2y-2z+11+4+4=±2x-3y-6z+14+9+36

⇒x-5y+4z+4=0 and 13x-23y-32z+10=0

Let θ be the angle between the planes x-5y+4z+4=0 and x-2y-2z+1=0

So, cosθ=1+10-81+4+4·1+25+16=142⇒tanθ=41>1

⇒θ>45°

Then acute angle bisector is plane P: 13x-23y-32z+10=0

Point -2, 0, -12 lies on the the plane P

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
