Q50 / 90 · JEE Main 2022 (24 Jun Shift 2) · Mathematics

Let S={z∈ℂ:z-3≤1 andz4+3i+z¯4-3i≤24}. If α+iβ is the point in S which is closest to 4i, then 25α+β is equal to ______.

Correct answer: 80

Solution

Given,

z-3≤1

Which represent a circle of radius 1 and centred at 3,0

Now simplifying z4+3i+z¯4-3i≤24

We get, x+iy4+3i+x-iy4-3i≤24

⇒4x+3xi+4iy-3y+4x-3ix-4iy-3y≤24

⇒8x-6y≤24

⇒4x-3y≤12

Now plotting the diagram we get,

Figure

Minimum distance of 0,4 from circle =32+42-1=4 will lie along line joining 0,4 & 3,0
∴ equation line
x3+y4=1⇒4x+3y=12     …i
Equation of circle x-32+y2=1    …ii

Solving (i) and (ii) we get,

12-3y4-32+y2=1

-3y42+y2=1

25y216=1⇒y=±45

So, for minimum distance y=45

∴  x=125

∴ 25α+β=2545+125

⇒16×5=80

Hence, the correct answer is 80.
