Let fx=x6-2x5+x3+x2-x-1 and gx=x4-x3-x2-1 be two polynomials. Let a,b,c and d be the roots of gx=0. Then, the value of

fa+fb+fc+fd is

  • A
    -5
  • Correct answer
    B
    0
  • C
    4
  • D
    5

Solution

Given,

fx=x6-2x5+x3+x2-x-1

=x2x4-x3-x2-1-xx4-x3-x2-1+2x2-2x-1

⇒fx=x2-xgx+2x2-2x-1

∴ fa=2a2-2a-1

∴ Σfa=fa+fb+c+fd

=2Σa2-2Σa-Σ1

=2Σa2-2Σab-2Σa-4

∵ a,b,c,d are roots of equation

gx=x4-x3-x2-1=0

then Σa=1, Σab=-1

∴ Σfa=212-2-1-21-4

=6-2-4=0

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
