Let a→=i^+j^+k^ and b→ be two vectors such that a→·b→=1,cosa→·b→=13 and the components of b→ w.r.t i^, j^, k^ be integers. Then the number of possible vectors that represent b→ is

  • A
    1
  • B
    2
  • Correct answer
    C
    3
  • D
    4

Solution

Given,

a→=i^+j^+k^ and b→ be two vectors such that a→·b→=1 & cosa→·b→=13

So, applying formula of dot product we get,

a→·b→=1⇒a→b→×13=1

⇒3b→×13=1

⇒b→=3

Also given that the components of b→ w.r.t i^, j^, k^ be integers,

Then the possible vectors that represent b¯ will be i^-j^+k^, -i^+j^+k^, i^+j^-k^

Then the number of possible vectors that represent b→ is 3

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
