If the complex cube roots of (-i) are α, β, γ, then α2+β2+γ2=

  • A
    1
  • B
    -1
  • C
    -i
  • Correct answer
    D
    0

Solution

-i13=α, β, γ

α2+β2+γ2=?

-i=1 and argument is =-π2

⇒So we can change it in polar form

cos2mπ-π2+isin2mπ-π213

⇒cos2mπ3-π6+isin2mπ3-π6

putting m=0, 1, 2

⇒cos-π6+isin-π6

⇒32-i12=α

Now putting m=1

cos2π3-π6+isin2π3-π6

⇒cosπ2+isinπ2⇒i=β

Now putting m=2

cos4π3-76+isin4π3-π6

⇒cos7π6+isin7π6

⇒cosπ+π6+isinπ+π6

⇒-cosπ6-isinπ6

⇒-32-i12=γ

⇒So, α2+β2+γ2=34-14-32i-1+34-14+32i=0

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
