If a ray of light passes through an equilateral prism such that the angle of incidence and the angle of emergence are both equal to $70 \%$ of the angle of the prism, then the angle of minimum deviation is
- A$36^{\circ}$
- B$18^{\circ}$
- C$42^{\circ}$
- Correct answerD$24^{\circ}$
Solution
using $A+\delta=\mathbf{i}+e \Rightarrow \delta=\mathrm{i}+\mathrm{e}-\mathrm{A}$
Equilateral prism so $\mathrm{A}=60^{\circ}$
And $\mathrm{i}=\mathrm{e}=60^{\circ} \times \frac{70}{100}=42^{\circ}$
$\therefore \delta=42^{\circ}+42^{\circ}-60^{\circ}=24^{\circ}$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
