Q46 / 125 · BITSAT 2018 · Mathematics

If a, b, c are in GP and loga-log2b, log2b-log3c and log3c-loga are in AP, then a, b and c are the lengths of the sides of a triangle, which is

  • A
    equilateral
  • B
    right angled
  • C
    acute-angled
  • Correct answer
    D
    obtuse angled

Solution

Given, a, b, c are in GP.

∴ b2=ac

and 2log2b-log3c=loga-log2b+log3c-loga

⇒b2=ac and 2b=3c

∵ a+b=5a3>c, b+c=10a9>a

and c+a=13a9>b

∴ a, b, c are the sides of a triangle.

Also, a is the greatest side

∴ cosA=b2+c2-a22bc=-2948<0

∴ ∆ABC is an obtuse angled triangle.

Hence, option (d) is correct.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
