How many water molecules present in $\mathrm{CuSO}_4 \cdot 5 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ are hydrogen bonded?
- A$5$
- Correct answerB$1$
- C$4$
- D$2$
Solution
$\mathrm{The} \mathrm{CuSO}_4 \cdot 5 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ contain five molecules as
water of crystallisation by each $\mathrm{CuSO}_4$ molecule. Out of $5 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ molecules, $4 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ molecules are bonded with the $\mathrm{CuSO}_4$, (i.c. with $\mathrm{Cu}^{2+}$ ) through coordinate bonds while one of the $\mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ molecule is bonded through $\mathrm{H}$ - bond.

Stucture of $\mathrm{CuSO}_4 \cdot 5 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

Stucture of $\mathrm{CuSO}_4 \cdot 5 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
