Q50 / 71 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Mathematics · Inverse Trigonometric Functions

Consider the function fx=cos-1⁡3x+sin-1⁡3x-1, then (where, ⋅ represents the greatest integer part of x)

  • A
the domain of fx is x∈-∞, 0
  • Correct answer
    B
the range of fx is singleton
  • C
    fx is an even function
  • D
    fx is an odd function

Solution

For fx to be defined 3x=0, 1

∴3x∈0, 2⇒x∈-∞,log3⁡2

Range of fx=cos-1⁡0+sin-1⁡-1,cos-1⁡1+sin-1⁡0≡0

∴fx=0 ∀x∈-∞,log3⁡2

So, the domain is not symmetric about the origin

∴fx is neither even nor odd

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
