Q114 / 180 · NEET 2018 · Physics

A carbon resistor of 47±4.7 kΩ is to be marked with rings of different colours for its identification. The colour code sequence will be:

  • A
    Yellow - Green - Violet - Gold
  • Correct answer
    B
    Yellow - Violet - Orange - Silver
  • C
    Violet - Yellow - Orange - Silver
  • D
    Green - Orange - Violet - Gold

Solution

Given resistance of a carbon resistor is

R=47±4.7×103

Where according to color code of carbon resistor given digits are digit 4 for yellow color, digit 7 for violet color, the multiplier 103 for orange color and tolerance 4·747=10% for silver color.

That's why as per color code, the sequence of colors rings are

Figure

Yellow - Violet - Orange - Silver

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
