Which of the following is the increasing order of enthalpy of vaporization?
- A$\mathrm{NH}_3, \mathrm{PH}_3, \mathrm{AsH}_3$
- B$\mathrm{AsH}_3, \mathrm{PH}_3, \mathrm{NH}_3$
- C$\mathrm{NH}_3, \mathrm{AsH}_3, \mathrm{PH}_3$
- Correct answerD$\mathrm{PH}_3, \mathrm{AsH}_3, \mathrm{NH}_3$
Solution
The inter-particle forces are strongest in \(\mathrm{NH}_3\) (Hydrogen bonds). In \(\mathrm{PH}_3\) and \(\mathrm{AsH}_3\) the inter-particle forces are dipole-dipole forces which are relatively stronger in \(\mathrm{AsH}_3\). So the increasing order of vaporization is \(\mathrm{PH}_3, \mathrm{AsH}_3\), and \(\mathrm{NH}_3\)
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
