Which of the curve $(Z v s p)$ will be followed by a real gas?

- APathway 3 only
- Correct answerBPathways 2 and 3 only
- CPathways 1 and 2 only
- DPathway 2 only
Solution
$\because Z=\frac{p V}{n R T}$
where,
$ Z=\text { compressibility factor }, p=\text { pressure }$
$V=\text { volume, } n=\text { number of moles }$
$R=\text { gas constant }, T=\text { temperature, }$
Also, curves for $(Z v s p)$
(i) If $Z>1$ the gas show positive deviation from ideal behaviour and is less compressible.
(ii) If $Z < 1$, gas show negative deviation.
(iii) No, real gas give a straight line parallel to $(p)$. Hence, path way (2) and (3) only is the correct answer.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
