Q51 / 270 · NDA 2023 (Phase 1) · General Ability
Two identical spring balances $S_1$ and $S_2$ are connected one after the other and are held vertically as shown in the figure. A mass of 10 kg is hanging from $S_2$. If the readings on $S_1$ and $S_2$ are $W_1$ and $W_2$ respectively, then:

- A$W_1=5 \mathrm{~kg}$ and $W_2=10 \mathrm{~kg}$
- B$W_1=10 \mathrm{~kg}$ and $W_2=5 \mathrm{~kg}$
- C$W_1=5 \mathrm{~kg}$ and $W_2=5 \mathrm{~kg}$
- Correct answerD$W_1=10 \mathrm{~kg}$ and $W_2=10 \mathrm{~kg}$
Solution

In both end tension will be same. $\mathrm{W}_1=10 \mathrm{~kg}$ and $\mathrm{W}_2=10 \mathrm{~kg}$ So, the reading on $\mathrm{S}_1$ and $\mathrm{S}_2$ are $\mathrm{W} 1=10 \mathrm{~kg}$ and W 2 $=10 \mathrm{~kg}$ respectively.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
