Q123 / 160 · AP EAMCET 2021 (20 Aug Shift 1) · Physics

Two cars A and B are moving with a velocity of 30kmph in the same direction. They are separated by 10 km. The speed of another car C moving in the opposite direction, if it meets these two cars at an interval of eight minutes is

  • Correct answer
    A
    45kmph
  • B
    40kmph
  • C
    15kmph
  • D
    30kmph

Solution

Two cars A and B are moving at the same speed therefore, the relative velocity of both cars with respect to the other is zero.

Now, a car C is moving in the opposite direction let's say with velocity vC then, the relative velocity of car C with respect to A and B is vCB=vCA=vC-vA

Given that distance of separation between cars A and B is 10 km and speed of cars is 30 kmph

Also, given that car C crossed B and A in 8 min or 860 hrs then, it means that car C travels a distance of 10 km in 215 hrs with relative velocity vCA

Distance = speed ×time⇒10 km=vCA×215 hrs⇒vCA=75 kmph⇒vC-vA=75 kmph⇒vC=75+vA⇒vC=75+-30=45 kmph

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
