Q142 / 160 · TS EAMCET 2019 (03 May Shift 2) · Physics

Three lenses of focal lengths +10 cm,-10 cm and +30 cm are placed at a distance of 30 cm,35 cm and 45 cm respectively from an object. The distance between the object and the image formed is

  • A
    100 cm
  • Correct answer
    B
    75 cm
  • C
    30 cm
  • D
    45 cm

Solution

FigureRefer above diagram,

For lens A, u=-30 cm, fB=+10 cm

The using lens formula, the image distance for lens A is

1vA-1uA=1fA

⇒1vA-1-30=1+10

The image distance from lens Ais given by

⇒vA=15 cm

For lens B, u=(vA-5)=(15-5)=10 cm and fB=-10 cm

Now image distance for lens B is

1vB-1+10=1-10⇒vB=∞

Similarly, for lens C

u=∞ and fC=30 cm

1vc-1∞=130⇒vc=30 cm

Hence, total distance between object & image is

30+45=75 cm

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
