Q38 / 208 · NTA Abhyas (NEET) 2020 · Physics · Gravitation

The weight of a body at the centre of earth is

  • A
    9.8 m s-2
  • Correct answer
    B
    0
  • C
    4.9 m s-2
  • D
    10 m s-2

Solution

We know that, on going below the earth surface, g decreases, which is given by

g′=g1-dRe .....(i)

where, d= depth

Re= Radius of earth.

At the centre of earth, d=Re [ ∴   from Equation (i)]

g′=g1-ReRe

g′=0

Hence, weight of the body at the centre,

w=mg′

=m×0

=0

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
