Q8 / 90 · JEE Main 2022 (25 Jul Shift 1) · Chemistry

The reaction of H2O2 with potassium permanganate in acidic medium leads to the formation of mainly

  • Correct answer
    A
    Mn2+
  • B
    Mn4+
  • C
    Mn3+
  • D
    Mn6+

Solution

When hydrogen peroxide is treated with acidified potassium permanganate, the reduction of permanganate ion to Mn2+ion  takes place by the following reaction,

2KMnO4+3H2SO4+5H2O2→K2SO4+2MnSO4+8H2O+5O2

In the above reaction, potassium permanganate acts an oxidising agent.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
