Q10 / 160 · TS EAMCET 2021 (04 Aug Shift 1) · Chemistry

The number of grams of oxygen in 32.2 g of Na2SO4·10H2O is approximately

  • A
    32.2g
  • Correct answer
    B
    22.4g
  • C
    11.2g
  • D
    64.4g

Solution

The atomic masses of elements are :-

Na= 23g/mol; S=32g/mol;O=16g/mol;H=1g/mol

So, the molecular mass of Na2SO4·10H2O=23×2+32+14×16+20×1=322g/mol

Given mass of Na2SO4·10H2O=32.2 g

Mole of Na2SO4·10H2O=Given massMolecular mass=32.2322=0.1 mol

Now, the atomicity of oxygen is 14.

So, mole of oxygen = Mole of Na2SO4·10H2O ×atomicity of oxygen =0.1×14=1.4 mol

So, mass of oxygen = 1.4×16=22.4 g

Hence, the number of grams of oxygen is 22.4 g.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
