The maximum number of orbitals present in $n=4$ energy level of an atom and the maximum number of electrons with spin value $+\frac{1}{2}$ in the same orbitals are
,respectively.

,respectively.
- A16, 5
- B16, 7
- C16, 9
- Correct answerD16, 16
Solution
For $\mathrm{n}=4 l=0,1,2,3$.
For each ' $l$ ' value $(2 l+l)$ no. of orbitals are available.
$$
l=0, \mathrm{~m}_l=1 ; l=1, \mathrm{~m}_l=3 ; l=2, \mathrm{~m}_l=5 ; l=3, \mathrm{~m}_l=7
$$
$\therefore \quad$ Total no. of orbitals $=1+3+5+7=16$
Each orbital contains maximum 2 electrons having spin value $\left(\ell+\frac{1}{2}\right)$ and $\left(-\frac{1}{2}\right)$.
$\therefore \quad 16$ orbitals have 32 electrons among which 16 electrons have 2 spin value $\left(+\frac{1}{2}\right)$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
