Q31 / 160 · NTA Abhyas (NEET) 2020 · Chemistry · Solutions

The freezing point of water is depressed by 0.37oC in a 0.01 molal NaCl solution. The freezing point of 0.02 molal solution of urea is depressed by

  • Correct answer
    A
    0.37oC
  • B
    0oC
  • C
    0.56oC
  • D
    0.187oC

Solution

The depression in freezing point is proportional to molal concentration of the solute i.e.,
ΔTf∝m
ΔTf=Kfmi
or Kf=ΔTfi×m=constant
So, ΔTƒNaCliNaCl×mNaCl=ΔTfi×m=constant
0.372×0.01=ΔTfUrea0.02×1
ΔTf=0.37×0.020.02=0.37 °C

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
