Q21 / 180 · NEET 2013 (Karnataka) · Botany
The figure shows a hypothetical tetrapeptide portion with parts labelled a-d. Which is the correct option?

- A$c$ is an aromatic amino acid tryptophan.
- B$a$ is the C-terminal amino acid and $d$ is $\mathrm{N}$-terminal amino acid.
- C$a$ is a sulphur containing amino acid methionine.
- Correct answerD$d$ is the acidic amino acid-glutamic acid.
Solution
In the given figure a tetrapeptide is shown. Here, amino acids are indicated as (a), (b) (c) and (d). (a) indicates N-terminal amino acid and (d) indicates Cterminal residue. As it can be seen from the figure sulphur containing amino acid is $b$ and carboxyl group $(-\mathrm{COOH})$ containing amino acid is (d). Residue (d) indicates glutamic acid, an acidic residue due to presence of $(-\mathrm{COOH})$ group.
So, the correct answer is 'd is acidic amino acid - glutamic acid'.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
