The correct statements about the oxoacids, HClO4 and HClO are,

  • Correct answer
    A
    the conjugate base of HClO4 is weaker base than HClO.
  • Correct answer
    B
    the central atom in both HClO4 and HClO is  sp3 hybridized.
  • C
    HClO4 is formed in the reaction between  Cl2 and H2O.
  • Correct answer
    D
    HClO4 is more acidic than HClO because of the resonance stabilization of its anion.

Solution

(i)  HClO4 ⇌H++ClO4-

ClO4-  is resonance stabilized anion.

HClO ⇌H++ClO-

∴    HClO4 is more acidic then HClO.

(ii)   Cl2+H2O→HClO+HCl

(iii)  HClO4 FigureThe central atom is sp3 hybridised.

Figure The central atom is sp3 hybridised.

(iv)  HClO4+H2O→H3O⊕+ClO4- since H2O is accepting H+ from HClO4 so H2O  is stronger base compare to ClO4-.

Hence, the correct answer is options: 'A', 'B', 'D'.
