Q44 / 160 · TS EAMCET 2019 (03 May Shift 2) · Mathematics

Suppose n>1 and A is a non-singular matrix of order n such that adjA=adjadjA. Then the matrix whose rank is n, is

  • Correct answer
    A
    123456678
  • B
    222222222
  • C
    120-13412-2325
  • D
    14-1230012

Solution

We know that adjA=An-1 & adjadjA=An-12, where n is the order of the matrix A.

Given adjA=adjadjA

⇒An-1=An-12

⇒n-1=n-12

⇒n-1n-1-1=0

⇒n-1n-2=0

⇒n=1 (not possible as n>1) or n=2

So, n=2.

Rank of the matrix refers to the highest number of linearly independent columns in a matrix or the highest number of linearly independent rows in the matrix.

So, 123456678 is the required matrix.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
