Suppose f is a function satisfying f(x+y)=f(x)+f(y) for  all x,y∈ℕ and f(1)=15. If ∑n=1mf(n)n(n+1)(n+2)=112 then m is equal to ______.

Correct answer: 10

Solution

Given,

fx+y=fx+fy & f1=15

Now solving the given functional equation by taking x=1 & y=1 we get,

f1+1=f1+f1

⇒f2=25 as f1=15

Now taking x=2 & y=1 we get,

f3=25+15⇒f3=35

Hence, fx=x5

Now solving  ∑n=1mfnnn+1n+2=112

⇒∑n=1mn5nn+1n+2=112

⇒15∑n=1m1n+1n+2=112

⇒15∑n=1m1n+1-1n+2=112

⇒1512-13+13-14+14.....-1m+2=112

⇒1512-1m+2=112

⇒m2m+2=512

⇒12m=10m+2

⇒m=10

Hence, the correct answer is 10.
