Prussian blue, a blue pigment used for paints and fabrics was the first synthetic coordination compound. It has a cubic structure with Fe in both +2 and +3 oxidation states. It is obtained by the addition of iron(III) salts to sodium/potassium ferrocyanide in aqueous solution. The action of sodium ferrocyanide with sodium nitrite in aqueous solution produces a beautiful ruby red diamagnetic iron complex (X), which gives a violet colored complex ( $\mathbf{Y}$ ) in the presence of sulphide. $\mathbf{X}$ on treatment with NaOH gives back sodium ferrocyanide. The correct statement(s) is/are

  • A
In Prussian blue, the same number of $\mathrm{Fe}(\mathrm{II})$ and $\mathrm{Fe}(\mathrm{III})$ ions are present.
  • Correct answer
    B
The oxidation state of Fe in complex Y is +2 .
  • Correct answer
    C
The hybridization of Fe in ferrocyanide ion is $\mathrm{d}^2 \mathrm{sp}^3$.
  • D
    The complex $\mathbf{X}$ is $\mathrm{Na}_4\left[\mathrm{Fe}(\mathrm{CN})_6 \mathrm{NO}\right]$.

Hence, the correct answer is options: 'B', 'C'.
