Light is incident on a polarizer with intensity $I_0$. A second prism called analyzer is kept at a angle of $15^{\circ}$, from the first polarizer then the intensity of final emergent light will be
- A$I_0(\sqrt{2}-1)$
- B$I_0(\sqrt{3}-1)$
- Correct answerC$\frac{I_0}{4}(2+\sqrt{3})$
- D$\frac{I_0}{4}(2-\sqrt{3})$
Solution
Intensity of final emergent light
$\begin{aligned} & I=\frac{I_0}{2} \cos ^2\left(15^{\circ}\right)==\frac{I_0}{4}\left[1+\cos \left(30^{\circ}\right)\right] \\ & =\frac{I_0}{4} \cdot\left[1+\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}\right]=\frac{I_0}{4}[2+\sqrt{3}]\end{aligned}$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
