Q46 / 90 · JEE Main 2022 (27 Jul Shift 2) · Mathematics

Let X have a binomial distribution Bn,p such that the sum and the product of the mean and variance of X are 24 and 128 respectively. If PX>n-3=k2n, then k is equal to

  • A
    528
  • Correct answer
    B
    529
  • C
    629
  • D
    630

Solution

Let M=Mean and V=Variance M>V

So, M+V=24, MV=128

⇒M=16 and V=8

Now, mean np=16

and variance npq=8⇒q=12

∴  p=12,n=32

Now PX>n-3=12nCn-2n+Cn-1n+Cnn

∴ k2n=12nC3032+C3132+C3232

⇒k=32×312+32+1

=496+33=529

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
