Q22 / 57 · JEE Advanced 2021 (Paper 2) · Mathematics

Let f:-π2,π2→ℝ be a continuous function such that f0=1 and ∫0π3ftdt=0

Then which of the following statements is (are) TRUE?

  • Correct answer
    A
The equation fx-3cos3x=0 has at least one solution in 0,π3
  • Correct answer
    B
The equation fx-3sin3x=-6π has at least one solution in 0,π3
  • Correct answer
    C
    limx→0x∫0xftdt1-ex2=-1
  • D
    limx→0sinx∫0xftdtx2=-1

Solution

(A) Let gx=fx-3cos3x

Now

∫0π3gxdx=∫0π3fxdx-3∫0π3cos3xdx

=0-sin3x0π3=0

Hence gx=0 has a root in 0,π3

(B) Let hx=fx-3sin3x+6π

Now

∫0π3hxdx=∫0π3fxdx-3∫0π3sin3xdx+∫0π36πdx

=0--cos3x0π3+6xπ0π3

=0-2+2=0

Hence hx=0has a root in 0,π3

(C) limx→0x∫0xf(t)dt1-ex2

=limx→0x21-ex2×⏟-1∫0xf(t)dtx⏟Apply L'hospital rule

=-1limx→0fx1=-1

(D) limx→0(sinx)∫0xftdtx2

=limx→0sinxx⏟1×∫0xf(t)dtx⏟Apply L'hospital rule

=1limx→0fx1=1

Hence, the correct answer is options: 'A', 'B', 'C'.
