Let f:0, π→R be a twice differentiable function such that limt→xfxsint-ftsinxt-x=sin2x  for all x∈0, π. If fπ6=-π12, then which of the following statement(s) is (are) TRUE ?

  • A
    fπ4=π42
  • Correct answer
    B
    fx<x46-x2 for all x∈0,π
  • Correct answer
    C
    There exists α∈0, π such that f′α=0
  • Correct answer
    D
    f"π2+fπ2=0

Solution

limt→xfxsint-ftsinxt-x=sin2x
By using L'Hopital rule
limt→xfxcost-f′tsinx1=sin2x
⇒fxcosx-f′xsinx=sin2x
⇒-f′xsinx-fxcosxsin2x=1
⇒-dfxsinxdx=1
⇒fxsinx=-x+c
Put x=π6 and fπ6=-π12
∴ c=0⇒fx=-xsinx
A fπ4=-π412
B fx=-xsinx
As sinx>x-x36 , -xsinx<-x2+x46
∴fx<-x2+x46 ∀ x∈0,π
C f′x=-sinx-xcosx
f′x=0⇒tanx=-x⇒ there exist α∈0,π for which f′α=0
Figure
D f"x=-2cosx+xsinx
f"π2=π2, fπ2=-π2
f"π2+fπ2=0

Hence, the correct answer is options: 'B', 'C', 'D'.
