Q44 / 125 · BITSAT 2019 · Mathematics

Let ABC be an acute-angled triangle and let D be the mid-point of BC. If AB=AD, then tanBtanC equal

  • A
    2
  • B
    3
  • C
    2
  • Correct answer
    D
    3

Solution

In  ∆ABC,D be the mid-point of BC and AB=AD⇒ΔABD is isosceles.

Let AM be the perpendicular drawn from A to BC.

∴ AM is perpendicular bisector of BD

BM=MD

ln ΔABM, tanB=AMBM

Figure

ln ΔAMC, tanC=AMCM

∴ tanBtanC=CMBM=3BMBM=3  ∵CM=DM+CD

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
