Q39 / 124 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Mathematics · Determinants

Let a, b and c satisfy the system of equations a+2b+3c=6, 4a+5b+6c=12 and 6a+9b=4. If the roots of the equation a+b+cx2-abcx+a-1+b-1+c-1=0 are α and β, then 1α+1β is equal to

  • A
    243
  • B
    100
  • C
    24312
  • Correct answer
    D
    100243

Solution

Using cramer’s rule
∆=123456690=1-54-2-36+36
=-54+72+18=36
∆1=6231256490=6-54-2-24+388
=-324+48+264=-12
∆2=1634126640=1-24-6-36+3-56
=-24+216-168=24
∆3=1264512694=1-88-2-56+66
=-88+112+36=60
⇒a=∆1∆=-13,b=∆2∆=23,c=∆3∆=53
⇒ equation is 2x2+1027x-910=0
⇒540x2+100x-243=0
α+β=-527,αβ=-920
1α+1β=α+βαβ=-527-920=100243

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
