Q75 / 125 · BITSAT 2017 · Mathematics

Let a^ and b^ are two non-collinear unit vectors. If u→=a^-a^·b^b^ and v→=a^×b^, then |v→| is equal to

  • Correct answer
    A
    u→
  • B
    u→+v→.a^
  • C
    2v→
  • D
    v→+u→·a^+b^

Solution

We have, a^=b^=1

Given, v→=a^×b^=a^b^sinθn^=sinθn^

where, θ is the angle between a^ and b^.

∴   v→=sinθ

Now, u→=a^-a^·b^b^=a^-a^b^cosθb^

u→=a^-cosθb^

∴ u→=a^2+-cosθb^2-2a^-cosθb^cosθ

⇒ u→=1+cos2θ-2cos2θ

⇒u→=1-cos2θ=sin2θ

∴ u→=sinθ

So, v→=u→

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
