Q24 / 160 · TS EAMCET 2022 (19 Jul Shift 2) · Chemistry
In two separate experiments, the same quantity of electricity was passed through silver and gold solutions [Assume ' $t$ ' constant] The amounts of Ag and Au deposited are 2.15 and $1.31 \mathrm{~g}$, respectively. The valency of gold is $[$ Atomic mass of $\mathrm{Ag}=107.9 ; \mathrm{Au}=197]$
- A1
- B2
- Correct answerC3
- D4
Solution
$\begin{aligned} & \frac{\mathrm{m}_1}{\mathrm{~m}_2}=\frac{\mathrm{E}_1}{\mathrm{E}_2} \Rightarrow \frac{2.15}{1.31}=\frac{107.9}{\mathrm{E}_2} \\ & \mathrm{E}_2=65.7\end{aligned}$
Equivalent weight $=\frac{\text { Atomic mass }}{\text { Valency }}$
Valency of gold $=\frac{197}{65.7}=3$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
