In triangle ABC, if A is acute, C is obtuse, sinA=3314,a=3 and b=5, then c=

  • A
    167
  • Correct answer
    B
    7
  • C
    143
  • D
    6

Solution

Given,

In triangle ABC, if A is acute, C is obtuse and sinA=3314,

Where a=3,b=5,

Now finding cosA=1-sin2A=1-33142=169142=1314

Now using cosine formula we get,

cosA=b2+c2-a22bc

⇒1314=52+c2-322×5c

⇒1314=16+c210c

⇒65c=716+c2

⇒7c2-65c+16×7=0

⇒7c2-49c-16c+16×7=0

⇒7c-16c-7=0

⇒c=167 or c=7

Since C is obtuse so side c will be greatest so c=7.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
