Q50 / 180 · NEET 2013 (Karnataka) · Chemistry
In an experiment it is shown that $10 \mathrm{ml}$ of $0.05 \mathrm{M}$ solution of chloride required 10 $\mathrm{ml}$ of $0.1 \mathrm{M}$ solution of $\mathrm{AgNO}_3$, which of the following will be the formula of the chloride ( $\mathrm{X}$ stands for the symbol of the element other than chlorine)
- A$\mathrm{X}_2 \mathrm{Cl}_2$
- Correct answerB$\mathrm{XCl}_2$
- C$\mathrm{XCl}_4$
- D$\mathrm{X}_2 \mathrm{Cl}$
Solution
Millimoles solution of chloride $=$ $0.05 \times 10=0.5$
Millimoles of $\mathrm{AgNO}_3=10 \times 0.1=$ 0.1.
$\mathrm{XCl}_2+2 \mathrm{AgNO}_3 \rightarrow 2 \mathrm{AgCl}+\mathrm{X}\left(\mathrm{NO}_3\right)_2$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
