Q53 / 170 · Manipal (MET) 2016 · Mathematics
If $a N=\{a n: n \in N\}$ and $b N \cap c N=d N$, where $a, b, c \in \mathbb{N}$ and $b, c$ are coprime, then
- A$b=c d$
- B$c=b d$
- Correct answerC$d=b c$
- DNone of these
Solution
We have, $b N=\{b n: n \in N\}, c I N=\{c n: n \in N\}$
and $d N=\{d n: n \in \mathbb{N}\}$
Also, $b c \in b \mathbb{N} \cap c \mathbb{N}=d \mathbb{N}$ [given]
$\begin{array}{ll}\therefore & b c \in b N \cap c N \text { or } b c \in d D \\ \therefore & b c=d\end{array}$ [as $b$ and $c$ are coprime]
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
