Q61 / 125 · BITSAT 2017 · Mathematics

If a function f:R→R satisfy the equation f(x+y)=f(x)+f(y),∀x,y and the function f(x) is continuous at x=0, then

  • A
f(x) is continuous for all positive real values of x
  • Correct answer
    B
f(x) is continuous for all x
  • C
    f(x)=0 for all x
  • D
    None of the above

Solution

∵ limx→0fx=f0

Let a be any point

Now, at x=a,limx→afx=limh→0fa+h

=limh→0fa+limh→0fh

=fa+f0=fa+0=fa

∴ fx is continuous at x=a, where a is any arbitrary point.

Hence, fx is continuous for all x.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
