If ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral with AB=6, BC=4, CD=5, DA=3 and ∠ABC=θ, then cosθ=

  • Correct answer
    A
    313
  • B
    1876
  • C
    1678
  • D
    7886

Solution

The figure below represents the quadrilateral.

Figure

In triangle ABC,

AC2=AB2+BC2-2(AB)(AC)cosθ

⇒AC2=62+42-2×6×4×cosθ

⇒AC2=52-48cosθ  ...i

Similarly, in triangle ADC,

AC2=AD2+DC2-2×AD×DCcos180°-θ

⇒AC2=32+52+2×3×5×cosθ

⇒AC2=34+30cosθ  ...ii

From equations i & ii,

52-48cosθ=34+30cosθ

So, cosθ=313

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
